Hello All,

I have A7N8X Deluxe 1.04 and just upgraded to an XP3200+ retail from an
xp2100+ OEM the PC now stutters in games and seems to also stutter in WIN XP
pro all the latest updates from the windows update site and a fresh install.
Switching back and fourth from processors resolves the stuttering problems
when the XP2100 is put back in. Are there any known problems with this
setup? It seems to be between MB/Mem and or CPU.

AN78X Deluxe

Bios 1.07

2x 512MB Corsair XMS3200 CAS2

GF4 TI4600

SATA Seagate 200GB HD

AUDIGY 2

Hope you can help

Pete

Hi!

I have the same MB version (without Deluxe) and I could not get Windows to
work with 400 MHz FSB although Asus claims so.
It seems the the mobo is not stable enought at Windows!!

So I'm changing the mobo to A7N8X-E Deluxe model...

This board is very finicky (per ASUS rep) about what kind of pc3200 you put
on it. I had the exact same problems 2 weeks ago. My solution turned out as
follows:
2 Sticks Corsair CMX512-3200c in dual
channel config. (available from mwave.com pt no. BA08584)
BIOS set 8,3,3,2.5; voltage at 2.7
This mem is on ASUS Qualified Vendor List-any other may not work.
Try slowing FSB down to 333mhz-if everything runs fine you have confirmed
the wrong mem in place.
Changing to the deluxe board will not help. Also make sure you have the
latest BIOS. See post/thread titled A7N8X-E Deluxe, 3200+ Kingston Valueram
posted on 4-29-04 by Ron Todd. Good luck!

Jukka, I wouldn't recommend upgrading just yet. the A7N8X seems to
be more stable than the newer -E deluxe. For now anyhow. ASUS pulled
version 1010 of the bios off the web site, and my A7N8X-E Deluxe is no
screamer yet.

Why are you guys talking about PC3200 memory, when the OP was talking
about 3200+ processors?

Because 400FSB memory aka PC3200 is required to run the XP3200 CPU (also
400FSB) in sync?

Yeah, about that "little" problem.

I bought the Corsair TWINX1024-3200LL and I have been able to get it
no farther up the line than 197mhz, 11x, 100% FSB. It is obviously
useful but it is like an occasional itch I can't scratch. ( I paid
for 200mhz and yada, yada, yada......) I guess I could try the
8,3,3,2.5 @ 2.7v., BUT I'm not over clocking and the thing SHOULD run
at the defaults.

A7N8X-E Dlx, 3200+ with Thermaltake Silent Boost, Corsair 3200LL, OEM
ATI 9200, Maxtor 120gb A-133, Antec 1080 w/ 430 True Power. And still
driving in the far right lane :-(

I run a 3200+ on my A7n8X Deluxe Rev1.04 at 400mhz fsb with no problems at
all.
All voltages default.
Never had a single problem since using the 1004 bios (first bios to support
400mhz fsb on this board). I currently use the 1007 bios
Using 2x512MB OCZ PC3200 EL Memory at 5-2-2

Is there anybody with this combo that *cannot* reach 200 Mhz FSB? If I buy
an XP3200 and the mobo cannot do 200 FSB (I have all the BIOS upgrades to
1007), then I would an argument to return my board and get one that does.

Not sure about the TWINX that you bought, but the CMX512 I bought is
supposed to run at CAS 2.5. When set to SPD the BIOS sets it at 3.0-dont
know why. After much discussion with ASUS, Kingston, this group and several
vendors I found that increasing the voltage 1 tenth is an acceptable, common
solution to memory problems and is NOT overclocking. My board would
occasionally act stupid with CAS set at 3.0 and voltage at 2.6. I know
increasing the speed to provide stability doesnt
make a lot of sense, but it works.

Regards, Paul

I am coming to the same conclusion and I am at a loss to understand
why. I assume ( a dangerous practice 🙂 ) that the A7N8X-E was only
an incremental improvement over the A7N8X that went to manufacturing
only after considerable testing. I'm running 1008 and have had to
drop back to 195mhz, clock & fsb. Putting my hopes on the next bios
upgrade.

They were all talking about running the board with 200 FSB. Because both of
them know, as does most everyone who owns this board revision, that it can
be very sensitive to which memory and at what speeds it runs. The OP may
have been running his memory timings too fast for the FSB speed he was
using. This has been a common issue with this board and is easily fixed as
per the post below. HTH

I have a different model of motherboard than you... the a7n8x deluxe rev2.0
and can't get 200 either with my supposedly high rated corsair memory.

Hello all,

I am the OP.

One game that i get a lot of stutter is Moto GP2, Its almost has if its
waiting for data from the HD although I don't believe this to be the fault
has it does not do it when I put the XP2100 back in. Also even if I run the
XP3200 at slower FSB down to 100Mhz it still stutters. If the PC locked up
totally it may have been easier to find the problem. I have run memtest86 it
cycled through at least 2 times without any errors at FSB 200Mhz not sure if
I should of just let memtest run but it just seemed to be looping so stopped
it after about 2 1/2 loops.

Thanks Pete.

The TWINX is just the way they identify the matched set of
CMX512-3200LLs.

According to Corsair these are fun tested on an ASUS A7N8X Nforce 2
setup before they are shipped and are represented at 2-3-2-6, command
rate 1T.

I've tried them at 2.6v and 2.7 with no difference.

Maybe this particular board has a capacitance problem on the clock
side of the bus. I'm at a loss for now.

tnx

Because they probably didn't know revision 1.X of the A7N8X
retard the FSB above 197FSB. That's how ASUS made the A7N8X rev 1.X
stable with 200FSB. Other than that..

Is the RAM in 100% Sync with the FSB in the BIOS?
Is the RAM running the correct timings for the speed of 200FSB?
(Check your RAM manufactures web site for details)
The AGP appature is at 64 or 128M? no smaller or larger.

Try installing nVidia latest drivers for XP?
Try installing your graphics drivers again after that.

If all else fails, try 197 FSB and see if it still happens.
