A7N8X problems

I would like to know if there are any known issues with the drivers which
come with the A7N8X-VM400 cd rom out of the box.
I have set up Windows 2000 with the latest service packs and I am getting
rather annoying crashes which lead me to suspect that perhaps there are some
updates which are needed for the mainboard, perhaps for the drivers for the
onboard LAN card or on-board graphics card etc.
I'm using an AMD Sempron 2600 and have got no other cards/hardware
installed other than a DVD rom ( Liteonit rewriteable drive Model
SOHW-1613S.)

I have an A7N8X-E and recommend you run memtest86 (memtest.org)
and Prime95 (mersenne.org) and its "torture test" option. First
you have to prove this is not a memory problem, before pointing
fingers at drivers/OS. Finding a memory which is stable and rock
solid with Nforce2 is the hardest part of using this board. My
solution was to use some CAS2 memory, but perhaps there is a
cheaper solution out there somewhere. (A quick way to improve
things, is to drop the clock speed for the FSB, and see if
your crashes disappear. That helps point to memory. A permanent
fix is to try some other memory.)

If you find no problems with those two tests, this web page
has some recommendations for driver versions. I am still using
4.27 on my system, with no complaints. (The nforce2 drivers
allow selecting which component drivers you want to use, and
I de-selected the Nvidia IDE drivers, as I prefer to use
the MS standard IDE driver if at all possible.)

Thank you Paul for comprehensive answer. I will try as you suggest to run
those tests on the memory but in the meantime, I have installed another card
and so far, the problem seems to have disappeared. Presumably that neither
rules out problems with the onboard graphics card nor the memory.
