A7V133 bad CPU socket

One of the tabs to which the fan retaining clips attach on the
CPU socket of my A7V133 sheared off. As a consequence the fan
became unattached and the CPU burned up. Is it possible to have
a new CPU socket attached for a reasonable price, or should I
just pitch it.

Find another heatsink/fan with a "three point clip". This
will allow whatever remaining tabs you have, to hold the heatsink
in place.

There are some other heatsinks, like the Zalman 7000 series,
that screw into place. That is a larger heatsink, for
which you must check the compatibility list, to see if
it will fit your motherboard. The advantage of a larger
heatsink, is the thermal resistance will be below 0.33
degrees C per watt of power dissipated, and there is
no problem cooling an AthlonXP with a heatsink like that.
I use one on my 3200+ and don't even bother to check
temps any more.

There are some HS which will attach to all tabs, and some will attach to
thru-board mounts (which IIRC the A7V133 doesn't have?). However for a
board of that age it's probably time to pitch it and get a modern board
- except you'll then likely need to replace memory as well as the board
and CPU.

A7V133?

You could probably pick up a replacement board for a lower price than a
replacement heatsink.
I would expect to pay no more than $US20 for an A7V122 second hand now &
while you are at it, you could look into upgrade options since you need a
CPU, and heatsink or motherboard.

Shop around - look for a computer recycler near you.

Thanks to all who replied. This is an OS/2 system so it
doesn't need the latest hardware. I think I am going to
try the "three point clip" route and pick up an Athlon
CPU replacement on Ebay.

Be aware that maybe your board died too, when the cpu burned.
