I can't seem to find an answer to this unfortunatly, so I was hoping you all could help.

I want to purchase a Tbred "A" or "B" processor, because they run far cooler than my current Pally. Thing is, I'm not sure if my mobo supports vcores of 1.5v to 1.6v. Asus, as well as my manual lists the lowest manual vcore setting as 1.750v (or something close to it). But Durons, which can run on this mobo, requires only something like 1.5v.

I'd prefer it if the new processor would run at stock voltage, and no higher because I don't plan on doing any OCing, nor heat up my 30C room even more heh.

Appreciate any help.

Duron Processors (0.18 ones) above 1Ghz specify 1.75V, so it could be that that is as low as your Mobo goes unfortunately. Couple that with Asus' tendency towards giving a slightly higher voltage than they're set for, and you'll be putting something like 1.77 - 1.79V thru the chip I suspect.

I don't think you'll be able to deliver that low a voltage without performing some kind of mod to the board, although I have no idea how to do that.

Ack! Okay so what sort of temps do you think I'll get from a Tbred running at 1.75v, assuming room temp is @ 30C?

Room temp of 30 is pretty damn High. 1.75V is fairly high Vcore for a T-bred.... You're fighting a bit of a losing battle here I think 😱 .

I would imagine you'll be doing very well to have an idle temp in the 40's (C). Load temp? With good cooling I'd say probably brushing 60.

Have you considered:
a)Watercooling?
b)a nice nforce2 motherboard?
c)Air conditioning?

I wouldn't want to live/work in a room with an air temp of 30C! how do you manage?

Argh! Heh, so it's kinda pointless changing from a Paly then, temps are already touching 58C, idle @ 100MHz FSB.

For watercooling, unfortunatly no. Don't have the budget at the moment for something like that. Point of changing procs is because I want a cooler chip in my system to prepare for a new g-card, possibly a 9800Pro, if prices fall below $200 (yea I know, unlikely). If I can't solve this thing, I'll have to get a 9600XT instead 🙁.

A new nForce2 mobo I'll definitely consider, I'll have to look around for that tomorrow. Are there any other good alternatives besides NVidia chipsets? Perhaps a Via chip that can go below 1.75v?

As for the air-con, well not for now heh :).

Thanks, been great help 😀.

Idle at 58c is much different than load at 60c. Get rid of the palamino core just to get rid of it and get yourself a tbred-b core when you can. The costs are so cheap. Sell the pally to a friend or make another computer :)

When my room temps are at around 20C, my cpu run idle at about 43-44. at 30C, it run like 49-50. It is not really your cpu's fault, but your room temps. if your machine is running stable, then dont worry.... CPu is not the only thing that is throwing heat inside the case...Hard disk, are hot runner too. Add your graphic card GPU and you have a really good heat source.

I would try to improve case ventilation first. Front fan for intake side fan for intake directly to the cpu, up fan for exhaust as well as on rear for exhaust too. Improve wiring inside the case too. tie the wires together and route them away from hot parts to improve air flow. A power supply with a botton intake fan take hot air from the cpu and push it at the rear. Maybe a new case will help you more than a new cpu.

But I definitively wont change cpu just to change cpu... That wont cure the problem...I'm sure of that.

Yep, I'm doing that today. I'm not sure what sorts of temps I'll get with the new processor, but I know I'll definitely need it (on a new board if necessary) if my new video card is too hot.

By the way, I forgot to make a short update. Seems after a BIOS update, temperatures went down about 10C. Still in denial, and am not sure whether to trust it yet heh. Anyway thanks :).

Yep, did all that (ventilation). Did a small mod on two 5.25" bay covers, and placed an 80mm fan between them to act as intake. I also have an exhaust using the same fan type and model at the back. Both are also adjustable.

I placed my HDD right behind the intake, in the 5.25" slots with the help of slot brackets, to cool it nicely. Overall temps only rose 1C, so it's pretty good.

Side fans unfortunatly ain't too good for me, warm air would be entering the case, since it's right next to the mon. Don't think I have room for top exhaust, but I'll see what I can do there later. Wires are also tied up pretty good.

Temps used to be very reasonable last time it was this warm, it's just that this year's a bit different. I thought maybe it was dust or something, but I cleaned out my system weeks ago.

Anyways, as stated, I upgraded my BIOS, and temps are now 10C lower. Don't know what to think of that, but I'm still considering getting a new CPU, and maybe a new mobo if things are still toasty. I'll also consider a new case if nothing works, heh, thanks :).

but the point is: If your computer is stable, dont worry. Unless you desesparatly need a reason to motive you to spend money on new hardware...then in that case..yes it is really hot and you really need a new mobo, cpu, ... 🙂

Yea thanks :). But my real concern was it heating up my room, I guess I'm just sick of two years of unbearable heat from this thing, so I'm ready to change it haha :).

Few hours more, and I'll post an update on how cool the new TBred runs. Big thanks again you guys, laters.

Final update: Got the second-hand 1800+ Tbred "B" processor, installed it, fired it up, and everything's down a further 10C on load. Lowered fan speeds as a result to keep highest temps at just 50C.
