hi all, just OC'ed my s939 3000+ Winchester to a 3800+ on this mobo, all
runs smooth, but I cant seem to find what is the vcore setting in the
v9bios, it seems to have vanished from there. normally when AI Overclocking
is set to manual, there should be a cpu/voltage setting menu but there
isn't.

the vcore in asusprobe reports vcore=1.406/1.422mhz, but I should be using
1.5 or greater (maybe I could leave it alone)

hmmm, prime95 fails immediately, needs to raise the vcore...

The Absolute maximum is on page51 "VDD supply relative to VSS".
Vdd is the core voltage and 1.65 is listed as the max. What I
don't know about this datasheet, is whether it has been updated
for Winchester.

This datasheet shows the VID_VDD value for a variety of
processors. You can look up your OPN and see what it is
rated for. Based on your observation above, it looks like
1.40V is the likely normal value.

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/30430.pdf

I wish I had more confidence in the contents of the document 31411.
Too bad AMD couldn't have used more conventional all-in-one
datasheets, because when the data is split up, you can never be sure
all sheets are up to date.

its been solved, I had cool and quiet on while overclocking, this disabled
the setting to change the vcore. I set it to 1.550 and now my system is
beautiful and OC'ed from a 3000+ to a 3800+. that's a 33% OC of 600MHz!

Highlandish, I am in the process of getting the stuff for my build with the
A8V Deluxe Ver.2. I'd love to know what:

RAM modules you are using, and how many etc.
All of your timings/RAM related settings (I am very new to this and want to
learn what others are doing).
Your BIOS settings with regards to the CPU.

I need your advice.

I will be getting a couple of "matched" PC 3200 512M modules that can run
3200+@ 2,2,2,5 @ 400. I will use them in Dual Channel mode. I have the
brand and model already picked out, getting them in a couple of days.

It will be a month before I can buy my CPU so I won't be able to assemble
until then so I thought that I would do whatever learning I could until
then.

Can you help me please?

BTW, are you using RAID, and if so, which controller, or are you using
both. What I mean to say is, what is your drive configuration? Any advice
there?

Thanks in advance!

I wrote a fair bit down here, documenting my OC, check it out
http://members.dodo.net.au/~ckreskay/pages/overclock.htm
I use 2x512 pc3200 kingmax ram, but I kept it in auto at the moment, as for
raid, I am not using it, but everyone says to use the promise raid setup.
also do yourself a favour and read all the posts on the a8v here and in
alt.comp.hardware.overclocking.amd for detailed info
