Thanks to everyone who has replied to my inane chatter. Here's some more.

In HOTU level 1 Under Mountain I expected to find the Taralash Longbow in
the (favored weapon) chest past the 3 statue puzzle. That chest only seems
to want to give a long sword. I took my first level of Arcane Archer just
prior to opening that chest. My character is Ranger 21, Wizard 2, Arcane
Archer 1. His feats include weapon focus longbow and long sword, improved
critical longbow and long sword, epic focus longbow, epic ranger, and epic
character. Shouldn't the chest lean toward the longbow rather than the long
sword? Any thoughts.

Thanks

It sounds like the 21 levels of Ranger make the chest conclude you're
more a Ranger than either of the others. My rogue/wizard/Arcane Archer,
with ten or more levels of Arcane Archer, got a bow.

No. The only two classes that affect that treasure generator are weapon
master and fighter. All other classes get their feats examined, Imp Crit
first, then Weap Focus. The way the search is done, your Imp Crit
Longsword flags true before the script finds Imp Crit Longbow, so you're
always going to get swords whenever this type of treasure generator is run.

I think part of my problem began when I first built the character and chose
the General Ranger package rather than the Sharpshooter package. I can't
remember in which order I added the feats. Good thing I love this game
because I think it's time to go back to the drawing board.

Does the order that you add the feats affect what the search finds first? It
is quite possible that I chose the longsword feats before the longbow feats.
I thought the Epic Focus Longbow would over ride the Imp Crit Longsword.

By the way, what is your favorite bow for the AA? I have read several forums
on the subject and people seem divided over the Taralash and a Standard
Longbow +3, both with upgrades by Rizolvir. I was wondering about the
Longarm Bow with Rizolvir upgrades.

No. The program reads feats.2da (in reverse order) and returns as soon
as it finds a match. It looks first at the Imp Crit feats; if no match
is found, it then examines the Weapon Focus feats (again, in reverse
order). Looking at feats.2da, Imp Crit Longsword comes after Imp Crit
Longbow; since the .2da file is being read in reverse order, it finds a
match at Imp Crit Longsword first.

So to avoid the problem, you should keep Longsword feats 1 level below
Longbow feats, such as,

Weapon Focus Longbow & Nothing for Longsword
or
Imp Crit Longbow & Weapon Focus Longsword

Right?
