I happen to have a laptop from Aarons and found the Cam by mistake. I am a disabled senior, so all the snide remarks and holier the thou sould stop. We have had no cost of living in social security in two years, my husband ended his working career at age 65 in 06 being laid off. This was the only way for us to get a computer, and if this device was made to not only make a computer dsyfuncional that is one thing, I ouwas told it is used to track their stolen laptops. So those of you leasing cars, check for the unknown GPS and bugs to keep your car from running if you get laid off. What a bunch of hypocrites and feeling you are better then others. Try wrapping your car around a tree and sustainin a head injury that ends your career like happened to me, or work for 40 years and get laid off one month after turning 65, can't get another then your wife dislocates her shoulder one week later, and your mother falls, breaks a hip and dies a few weeks later. Think about people's rights being violated and perhaps everyone isn't as lucky as you

Dixieone, Keep in mind that this forum represents a very low sample of the population and on any forum, its easy to make quick decisions and implications because... well, its quick with little repercussions if any! Don't take these comments personally. Just take them as a response to people who are not you.

That being said, I believe there are always options beyond rent to own. They are not always worth the time or effort, but there are always options. I hope this company is held liable if they are so.

A lot of misinformation here. As an Aaron's employee I can give a few facts. Aarons has 1100 corporate stores and 700 Franchise stores. NONE of the corporate stores use PC rental agent. Franchises, as independent businesses can choose to do so.

PC rental agent allows a company (Many RTO companies use it) to lock down a computer that hasn't been paid for. It doesn't monitor or keep a record of websites visited by a customer. And as far as I know you cant take a picture with the webcam. What it will do, in the case of a theft of a laptop is allow screenshots of the desktop to be taken and mailed to a higher up in order to try to recover the merchandise. But this can only be done by a master account holder, which shouldn't be a store level employee.

While I think that this specific person has a case against the franchise in question here, I think as a class action lawsuit its not going anywhere, considering the suit is against corporate Aaron's and not the individual franchisee and alot of the statements in the lawsuit about PC rental agent's abilities being false, I don't see this going very far.

This si SOOOO true.... I was 5 days late on my payment YES 5 days late, now mind you I have never been late in the 2 years I was dealing with their company. I was sitting on my bed on my computer looking up some stuff I needed, when suddenly my computer "shut's down". In the process of shutting down, the screen became red and had a message saying "your comupter hardware has been deactivated" please contact Aarons to reinstate. I call and they argue with me telling me they cannot turn it back on until I pay them. I argued with them and then he finally said "let me call my regional manager and get the password for you"... So yes this IS DEFINETLY HAPPENING EVERYWHERE> I am in RI..... Once I pay off my almost payed laptop, I will no longer do buisness with them EVER.....
