I bought the Asrock Ab350 Pro4 along with a Ryzen 5 1600X from a friend.

I mentioned I'm going to buy 3000Mhz RAM and he said not to go for high speed RAM because it would be unstable with my mobo.

I looked around a bit online and found nothing about this, can someone confirm if this is true?

Ryzen 2000 series featured an improved memory controller allowing the next higher up memory speed over prior model CPUs.

With a 1600X you can expect 2666MHz without overclocking. Single-rank memory also helps with higher speeds.

BIOS updates improve RAM compatibility.

Ryzen does like it, but faster RAM can be tricky to get stable since most all kits are optimized for Intel processors. So while you could try it be prepared to get stuck around 2667-2933 speed on a 1st gen processor even with later BIOS updates.

But if you're tenacious and don't mind tweaking with arcane BIOS settings you can get the most out of most kits up to about 3400. And there are a lot of settings in BIOS beyond those 4 or so most common ones; they can be very confusing. BUT there is an app available that will help arriving at 'safe' and 'fast' settings you can punch in to try to get the higher speeds.
