Hi
as you may know from previous postings I'm trying to spec a HTPC. I'm looking at the Abit IS7 Mainboard for S478/800mhz I865PE at the moment. it has spdif optical in and out. I was wondering if some one can confirm / deny if its possible to stream digial output from an attached DVD drive through this connection to an external amp for decoding.

thanks jc

Bart: isn’t that the wrong way.
Homer: yea but faster.

Why not just play DVD's from the computer? Anyway, yes you can stream audio to/from the S/P-DIF connectors.

I'd go with the IS7 rather than the IS7-E.

E stands for Economy. IS7 has all the features, E uses a cheaper southbridge and has no firewire.

I'm not saying "why don't you skip the receiver" but instead "why don't you play the movies directly from the PC to the receiver, without the extra DVD player".

yep , thats the plan (confusion on my part, must be the tipp-ex fumes 🙂 ) hope to get the surround sound signal (untouched) from the dvd drive to the receiver via the spdif port.
