Hello,
I was wondering if the motherboard Abit KA7-100 Via KX133 is a good motherboard choice. I have read some reviews, mostly good and some bad but I thought that overall it was a good board. I couldnt see that Tom did a review of the board but I wanted to know if anyone out there had it and if so what they thought of it?
Also I wanted to know the difference between Socket and Slot processor chips. Are Socket chips compatible with this MB (I dont think so)? Thanks for any help

Hey Matt,
I have the KT7-100, its a slot-A Athlon board. I have a classic 500 overclocked on this board to 650 and it runs solid. It is however old news. If I were you and I had enough money to spend, I'd buy an ASUS A7V with a T-Bird Socket-A processor. At least you will be able to get up to a 1200 cpu for it. The other option would be to hold out for DDR, thats my next adventure. Hope this helps. :)

Hi,

The KA7-100 is/was indeed a good motherboard. Lately I have been shying away from Abit simply because it's next to impossible to get any support from Abit. However, as was pointed out previously, about the only reason to purchase this board now would be if you were offered an incredibly low price. The CPU that this board takes, Athlon Slot-A, is being/already phased out in favor of the Socket-A design. This would be a dead end setup which, in my opinion, seems a waste. If you do purchase this board, just realize that you are finished as far as cpu upgrades go. If you want Abit, then the KT7-Raid would be what you are seeking at the moment. Asus, use the A7V which would also be a great choice. OR, if you can wait a couple of weeks, get one of the newer boards for the future DDR that is coming/here. That would probably be your very best bet.
KA7 = Slot-A (dying or dead)
KT7 = Socket-A current
DDR = ? not sure

Have A Good One

Hello Matt,
I own an ABIT KA7-100 motherboard with a AMD 800 overclocked to 900 since June when the first -100 came out. The motherboard is nice since it has built in ATA-100 suport. The KT7 was not out when I purchased my motherboard. I can tell you that the early KA7-100 pre-July had a power supply convesion problem that made the motherboard not boot up with video. Abit has not gotten back to me after e-mails, nor a 5 page fax to them. They said in a post on the web they would fix these boards, but getting it done seems to be a big problem.
If I were you and getting a new motherboard today, I would get a KT7 or even go ASUS Thunderbird the A slots are just about done from AMD.
Hope this helps.
