I just got home Internet from xfinity and am using a router I already owned. The router is a Motorola/Arris surfboard extreme SBGH6782-AC.

At first it always stated that the dns server wasnt responding so i changed the ipv4 and ipv6 to open dns servers. What occured next was that if I attempt to load a site such as youtube it worked flawlessly and can play videos with no issue. If I try to connect to a site such as cnet.com it will say the connection timed out. It seems to connect to google based sites (Google searches for example but doesnt load links) and random others such as Facebook work too.

This problem persists no matter what device I have tried (two different laptops and a phone) and doesn't matter if I am on Wi-Fi or plugged in via ethernet.

Solutions I have attempted:
1. Contacted Comcast and after much deliberation decided it was my routers issue.

2. flushed the DNS within command prompt

3. Changed my dns server settings (both ipv4 and ipv6) to googles public dns server.

4. Disabled ipv6/ipv4 and attempted to connect.

5. Tried multiple browsers

6. Attempted to access the router settings using the ip address the router gives in Windows settings and was unable to connect.

7. Obviously multiple power cyclesupply were done on the devices as well as the router to no avail.

Details: I am using Windows 10 on the laptops and Android for the phone. The modem shows solid green lights except the download and upload which are solid blue.

Looking for any help here I am totally at a loss.

Ok, so now that you can access your routers configuration, can you look for URL/Domain filters, keyword filters, and and inbound/outbound rules that may have been created. Are there any?

Bear in mind, this is what my problem was, I cannot guarantee this is the same for you. But it's worth checking IMHO
I recently went through a similar experience and it was indeed the router. It was a rule that blocked google-analytics in my keywords filters that was causing my problem. But yours might be different.

With the websites you can't get to.. If you try to access it by IP address does it work? For example, when I ping cnet.com I get an address of 64.30.228.118. So in a browser if you type 64.30.228.118 what happens?

I assume all of your devices use 192.168.0.xxx addresses. If you don't know (using DHCP), you can go to a CMD prompt on your PC and type

ipconfig /all (And look for the local ares network connection details - The IP address will start with 192.168).

This router supposedly uses 192.168.0.1 as it's default address.

If you're devices are on 192.168.0.xxx then the router LAN address must be too, otherwise you would not be connecting to the internet.

WARNING: Make sure you have any ISP settings before you reset the router (Username, password, connection settings etc). If you do not have these, after the factory reset you may not have any connection to the internet.

Given this, you can factory reset the router and then in a browser type 192.168.0.1 and you should be presented with the routers log in page.

From there, enter any connection settings and if required, anything else you need.

btw: I would stick with the OpenDNS DNS servers. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

I tried to connect to CNET using the ip address you provided and it just spun a while before saying it took too long to respond.

I did ipconfig and confirmed that my ipv4 address is 192.168.0.5

My router was recently factory reset actually and so uses the default 192.168.0.1 as you surmised. I could try factory resetting it again if you think that could make a difference.

Update: I can now actually access the routers settings page by typing in the 192.168.0.1 ip address into the search bar but didn't have time this morning to play around much.

When I asked for the device status this was what it gave me:

ACFF2h3gEtdCfasVA

Not sure if that has any information for anyone but figured I'd get as much out there as I can.
