Able to ping specific website but can't access it via browser on any device

Hi, I have no other problems with my internet connectivity whatsoever, but I am unable to access this one specific website. I can ping it fine from all devices, I can access it on my phone when using my phone's data plan fine, but if I try using my normal internet connection then I can't access it on any browser or any device (tried a windows laptop, a mac and my phone). All I get is a blank white screen.

I've contacted the tech support at the website in question, and after a lot of troubeshooting we're basically at the point of giving up. Apparently I'm not the only one with this specific issue, but the problem is only occurring for a few (out of tens of thousands) of their users. We thought it could be an ISP issue, but I'm using a different ISP to the others who are having the same problem, and one of them even lives in a different country.

Does anyone here have any suggestions of what could be the cause of this? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: For what it's worth, things we've already tried: disabling/uninstalling firewalls/antivirus software, changing DNS server settings, resetting network adapter settings, bypassing system-wide proxies

If you can ping a site but not get to it then it might be DNS. See if you can update your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (google)

Check the DNS on your router. It might be setup to override DNS.

To a point ping means nothing. If the web server application was down but the server was up it would respond to pings but not web. It can't be that simple in your case since the server is actually function on other networks.

Web pages are extremely complex. It may not even be the main site causing the issue. A web page many times open sessions with many locations.....lots of crappy advertising and tracking sites.

There are tools in the browsers to debug some of this but I am no expert. The brute force method you could use wireshark to capture the data. You should see traffic going both ways. The key to a network problem would be if you see you machine sending SYN packets to start the session and get no response. It is kinda hard to tell much when it works past the initial point since the data is many times https and is encrypted.

Do a DNS Leak test. Someone might be forcing a DNS on you with sites that are blacklisted. Google the DNS that shows up for anything related to that. Network Intrusion Detection systems may be blocking it as well, you probably wouldn't be able to ping it if that were the case. When you navigate it on your phone look at the full address. It might be something http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3688396/ping-specific-website-access-browser-device.html#20899993 replace the tomshardware with the ip and it might work.

Ping uses ICMP, where web browsing uses TCPIP Port 80.
you can ping something but not able to access it with a web browser.
this usually indicates a DNS issue, a Firewall issue. a Malware redirecting your DNS.

I am sensing a Cloudflare problem.
Also it seems that your access is limited to a specific website.

My first action is to take 2 action steps when I am unable to access a site.

1. Use isitdownrightnow.com and check whether the site is offline everywhere
2. Use ping command if in Windows (ping -t sitename.xxx)

Once these steps establish that the site is "UP"
then
Question - Are you using Chrome or Chrome beta

If so download the Opera Browser and set up the incorporated VPN option (Americas / Asia or Europe). Select America

Try accessing the specific website again using Opera + VPN setup.

If this solution works, then go to your mobile devices. Usually the manufacturer has loaded their own browser but you have selected your own preferred browser - probably chrome (statistically).

Try to access the Website with a different browser.

I have found that the situation that you describe is likely to involve a torrent site. In my case, this site access occurs only with the website eztv.ag & eztv.io.

Using chrome - A cloudflare error 502 occurs across all devices configured with chrome browsers.

If a change of Browser works in Windows using Opera browser, then try other browsers on your mobile devices.
