about graphics card overclocking

i have a antec 650w power supply and a zotac nvidia gtx 960 amp edition 2gb graphics card. Whenn i dont overclock the games runs at 30 to 45 fps.when i overclock it to 3d+ in firestorm oc utility it performs worst. why?
