Hey, i was wondering what the exact difference is between the two revisions

(1. is the initial release and for Agp only)

2. is for 6800/gt/ultra also pci-e

3. is for all, incl. 7800gt/gtx

now, the only difference i have noticed is that the rev.3 uses a 4-pin (stepless volt for fan aka intel775 setup) instad of the normal 2-pin on rev. 2. I have heard rumors about the backplate being different,

but what exactly is the difference here?

I am asking because i am almost 99% positive that with a few easy modifications, one could make the Rev.2 fit on a 7800GTX

thanx for your time

I found out the the exact difference is the 2-pin/vs 4-pin fanplug and that Rev.2 comes with no or a different shaped backplate (it will not completely cover a 7800-series card memory). My old rev.2 came with no backplate at all.

I succesfully mounted the Rev.2 on my other 7800gtx, using a creamique-like thermalgrease for the backplate/memory and adding two screws (i couldn't fit four because of the bolts used) and plugged the fan directly into the a motherboard fan-header since i couldn't be bothered soldering.

It's running cool and swift, though hotter than the 2nd card, since i switched the Gainward to the top port by the cpu - as far as i can tell it has a bit better image quality and better colour dept.. oh.. and it forces the slave-card to overclock, being a GS card, of course 😉
