Hi all,

Have 3 main pc's one is win2k, others 98, all common files and the printer are on the 2k.the 2kbox has 3 partitions, c:fat32 1 gig, D:ntfs (my stuff only), E:ntfs(stuff thats accesed by anyone). ok, other pc's can access the files as they are supposed to do. I binned the D: drive and installed linux on it, so what was E is now D as far as windows knows, everythings still there in 2k, but i cant access it from any of the other systems, I get "access denied", I removed and remade the shares and even tried giving full access to everyone- even enabled the guest account but no joy, anyone any suggestions?

not real clear on your setup fro the description (is your system now a dual-boot menu upon startup? also, are you saying that the info on the 'e' drive is now listed under the 'd' drive?). if you could, please outline the situation again. however, if the partition and/or its folders are encrypted, you will get an 'access denied' message. did you ever encrypt the files you want to access now?

I wish you could post pictures here :)
ok, I USED to have C,D,E partitions, I installed linux on D so when I now boot into windows 2k, it doesnt see the D as its now a ext2 linux partition, the C is the same, so the remaining partition that used to be E, is now D as the original D is now linux.
anyways, the drive letters have changed, what was E is now D (ntfs), all data on it intact. BUT lol, since yesterday, all I did was reboot the 2k box, and AHHHHHH I can SEE it in network neighborhood on the other pc's but get access denied when trying to access it. I think what I need to do is totally remove the 2k box from the network, (i.e. remove the ip i;ve assigned, my gateway etc) and set it up again, would this work? Normally an access denied in NN can be temporarily "fixed" by enabling the guest account, but that doesnt work, but as I say, all was ok till i dual booted the dam thing, any suggestions?

i dont think your IP address and network settings are wrong. try reviewing your settings for user accounts (must be on both machines with same password), share and NTFS permissions for the drive in question, and file encryption. all of these issues could cause you to receive this error message. good luck....
