Question Accessing a drive - password forgotten :(

I have a couple of hard drives that have Linux - most likely Mint, but one could be Ubuntu. I was using them to learn about Linux...but, obviously I didn't learn very well. There are some photos and things on the drives that I would like to access but I have forgotten the password. Is there any back door? I have a computer not being used now..is there I can app that I can install to hack into my own drive? I can let the computer run for months...even years...
