My old laptop died, so in order to retrieved the data off the hard drive I went and bought a USB adapter and connected it to my new laptop and my new laptop reads the HD as E : System Reserved It says there is only 100MB of space on the drive and yet I know there are hundreds of gigabytes of files.
I have searched through many forums trying to find a solution. Some people have exactly the same problem, but I've yet to see a solution.

Actually I've found out what the problem was. No problem at all! Sorry all.

Solution

That drive should read as two drive letters.
The E, System Reserved. That is the former boot partition.
And there should be another drive shown.

Please post a screencap of your Disk Management window, while this drive is connected.

Maybe. Is it a drive letter conflict?

Try changing boot drive from to like “y” and see if the old “c” shows up.

And or try booting a live version of Linux as windows could be being a stiff about accessing another windows drive
