Hello all, so i've got a strange one.

my motherboard has a bios Flashback and a CMOS reset button on the back of it, and in the proccess of inserting a USB today i bumped 1 or both of those buttons, which caused a cycle of reboots and blue screens.

I got impatient with this so I flipped the power on the powersupply, let it breath for 30 seconds and flipped it back on, well it booted back up to desktop like normal, and i try to run a game, well the game launches but hard crashes to desktop immediatly.

try another game, same thing, try a third same thing.

i delete a game and redownload it, launch it, able to run it and play it. apps like discord and geforce crash continuiously even after reinstall

so im thinking to myself: "well something corrupted the disk and I need to reinstall windows" I dont have a flash drive or a boot disc readily available tonight to make a boot media out of.

so windows 11 has this new feature where you can "reset your PC" and wipe the hard drive to a clean windows install, So I try that and it downloads and caches what i presume is a windows 11 installer, and it resets my computer, on the reset I get a BSOD which triggers another reset and loads back into windows like nothing happend

so at this point im throwing in the towel for the night, i'll go to the store tomorrow and pickup a flash drive to make a windows 11 boot disc with,

but i wanted to post this here for a sanity check to see if you guys think im on the right track or not.

i have a ROG motherboard (idk the exect model)with my main disk being an m.2 where my OS is installed,
and a 1 TB ssd for storage attached as an extension.

I don't see any mention of the model for your motherboard throughout the entire thread(apart from it being one by Asus under the ROG branding). Please add the make and model of your motherboard for the sake of erlevance.

You should source a donor system then recreate your bootable USB installer for Windows 11 to rule out a corrupt installer.

Apologies for the lack of details:
I'm really struggling with this issue

Here is the motherboard model:

ROG STRIX Z790-H

So what I have done today is got a USB drive and I have downloaded the most recent bios files to it, I followed the instructions and updated my bios

and unfortunately that has not resolved my issue.

So I went ahead and made a windows11 boot drive out of my USB stick, and I was going to reinstall windows.

But I keep getting the same error crop up on windows install.

"Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

Error code 0xC0000005

In addition to this I went ahead and unplugged my ssd and had from the board and was attempting to just partition the os onto the m.2

But now when I boot to bios I am not seeing the m.2 drive in the boot loader.

I attempted to reconnect the drives and now I'm not seeing any of them. (Other than my flash disk) in the boot loader

OK further update,

I figured out why my drives arnt appearing in bios. It's becuase the windows installer was successfully able to delete their partitions

On trying to install windows, I get alternating

Error code 0xC0000005

And blue screens of death.

Hello all, I recently posted a similar thread on the motherboards subforum.

But I am becoming increasingly concerned that this is a broader system issue so I wanted to post a follow up here

Llong story short, I accidently bumped the "bios flashback button" and my computer began to power-cycle, well I made a further mistake and cut the power to it.

From there I was having an issue where anytime an application became intensive it would hard crash to desktop.

I could run lighter apps like web browsers for some time but any heavy games would fail to load entirely.

So I figured I corrupted my bios,

I made a new copy of my latest bios files to a flash drive, and flashed the bios.

Unfortunately the problem persisted.

So I assumed I must have corrupted the disks, so I made a Windows 11 boot drive, and attempted to just reformat my drives.

Well I have successfully been able to delete my drive partitions, but when I attempt to install Windows I get an alternating situation of:

Error code 0xC0000005

And blue screens of death.

I did some research and found a reddit thread where someone was experiencing the same issue.

Apparently that error code checks out to a memory access violation, so I tried the following

Reformatted the windows 11 boot drive to nfts from fat 32.

(Same error)

And I ran my bios onboard memory test program, it ran for 3 hours without error before I canceled it

I read elsewhere to unplug all my data drives except the m.2 I am attempting to write to.
(Same errors persist)

And I have tried writing windowd to an alternate drive.

And I continue to get the same errors.

when the installer runs. It gets passed the "copying windows" step and gets to the second step where the installer seems to crash and start over, with the occasional errors I mentioned

At this point I'm kind of throwing my hands up and thinking I've actually damaged something.

The same reddit thread I was referring to mentioned they resolved this by doing a cpu replacement.

I have a

ROG STRIX Z790-H board
With an Intel i9 139000 chip

What CPU do you have and what BIOS version are you running?

You might need to update the BIOS for it to run properly if something got messed up with whatever button you hit.
cpu is an i9- 139000KF

I can't check the exact bios version until later tonight,(am at work)

But I can tell you I have attempted to update it to the latest from the manufacturers website.

Per there instructions I copied the bios to an empty flash drive, powered off the pc, inserted the flash drive into the "bios flashback" port,

And I pushed the bios flashback button.

the led light blinked for a long time, then I was able to boot back onto bios

That CPU is covered by every version of the BIOS so that specifically wouldn't be the problem.

I'd suggest doing a clear CMOS first.

If your current BIOS isn't the latest one for some reason then update that as well just to make sure all is good on that front.

Unless the BIOS itself is corrupted, which doesn't seem particularly likely, it could be something settings wise it isn't liking. If your memory is running XMP I'd suggest disabling that first just to see if there are any changes.

I tried the xmp on and off, I tried resetting the bios.

I'm becoming concerned it might be a faulty CPU becuase I've seen some others report replacing the cpu fixed their issue.

(Though my understanding was a bad cpu would prevent a boot)

I have a spare motherboard and cpu lieing around I'm going to try to connect that to see if that will install windows (OK the off chance it's a powersupply issue)

Will update with the results
