I have an acer 5630 and it stop working about a year ago and I have only just tried to fix it again. When I start the laptop up it says "configuring updates: stage 3 of 3 0% complete" then it will fail and reboot it's self and start that process again, and will just carry on doing that. I've tried starting it in safe mode but it just does the same thing. I've tried everything I can possibly think off and tried looking for help on websites but nothing seems to cover what I'm looking for. I'd appreciate any help I receive.

That's most likely the easiest solution. Perhaps you could sell the other machine on eBay or something as a parts-only or "for-repair" and try to get a bit of money to go toward buying another one. That's actually the most cost effective way of doing things, because you'll end up with better hardware for a bit of extra money, and you'll already have Windows pre-installed, etc.

When buying a new machine, be aware of things like shared video memory, and try to stay away from them if you're intent to do any gaming. Dedicated graphics are much better, because they have onboard graphics memory that requires absolutely no hassle when playing the games it can handle. Also be weary of buying unnecessary (for your situation) things, such as...
Yes. Buy a new HDD. Otherwise, even with repair tools, you'll likely end up losing the hard drive entirely and all of your newly installed programs, data, etc, as a result. It's easier to replace it now than to go wandering into the depths of data saving with a crippled disk.

Basically, it's more cost effective to simply buy a new HDD. If you're really that hard up for cash that you can't afford to drop 30-40 $ on a decent new drive, you could always find an HDD regenerator for free on the web, but most of the free ones only tell you that sectors are bad, then expect you to purchase them in order to fix the issues. In my experience, the freeware ones that actually do "fix" the disk seem to only put a bandaid on the issue at hand, and any that are worthy of purchase tend to cost double the price of a new disk.

Okay thankyou very much for your help, the best thing seems to me is to just buy a new laptop, but was just seeing if there was a way of fixing it before I spend any major money. I was just interested to see what things I had saved on my laptop, for example pictures and all of that but I'm not really to fussed about losing everything, if I had anything important on there I would of thought I would of had it repaired when it first broke. I appreciate your help, thankyou very much

Also be weary of buying unnecessary (for your situation) things, such as Bluetooth, and be sure that the machine you're buying is WiFi capable with the router that you already have. If your router only puts out b/g and you buy a laptop capable of only wireless N, you'll end up spending more money on another router as well in the long run. 😛
