Hello i have a acer aspire 5560 that when i boot up it loads then boots immediately to windows which it then freezes as windows tries to boot, i have tried to access the bios via pressing f2 f12 f11 etc.. and to plug in a live usb neither have brought any change, i really need some advice on how to solve this issue, Thank you!

Solution
I had the same problem, boot wait was disabled, it booted straight into Windows without checking for F2 key. Windows was crashing and couldn't even load safe mode which led to an unusable system.

I succeeded with a rather drastic solution: I powered off the laptop, unplugged it, removed the battery, and REMOVED THE HARD DRIVE. This made it impossible for it to load windows on boot, allowing me to get into BIOS setup with F2!

It is safe to power on a laptop without a hard drive. Just don't install or remove it while on, and/or when battery or line power is connected!

I don't truly know if this is related to your question or my solution, but when I changed the boot order from 'windows boot manager' to 'hdd0', Win7 was able to...
Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by doing a hard reset, remove the battery and AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then see if it will boot up normally and would not freeze.
- If it does, try loading BIOS by repeatedly pressing on F2 while the laptop is booting up.
- If you were able to load BIOS and it still freezes in it that means it's your CPU that has the problem but if it doesn't press F9 to load the defaults and exit.
- Next to try is to load Safe Mode, again while the laptop is booting up repeatedly press on F8 until it loads Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode and press Enter.
- If it will load Safe Mode disable all the startup items and reboot.
- Your last resort would be to run a clean install of Windows.

Here's a thread on how to do the factory reset with your laptop.

I don't truly know if this is related to your question or my solution, but when I changed the boot order from 'windows boot manager' to 'hdd0', Win7 was able to successfully boot again. Before that it was very flaky at booting, which I was hoping a round of Windows Updates would fix...
