Question Acer Aspire battery not working

Hello everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire with an AS07B61 battery. This battery no longer works, so I disassembled it and found it consists of six 18650 cells. When I measured their voltage, I noticed they were at 0V. I tried replacing them, and when I connect the battery to the PC, it gets recognized and shows 100% charge. However, as soon as I unplug the power adapter, the PC shuts down. In fact, when measuring the output pins, they show 0V. I think the BMS detects that they are not the original ones and goes into lock mode.

I then thought about resetting the chip values so that it would accept the new cells. The chip is a bq20z955, so I tried accessing it using an EV2400 and bqStudio, but it is not recognized.

Can anyone help me? How can I reset the values? I suspect that it doesn't appear in the list because it is encrypted and that I need a data flash to decrypt the chip, correct?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Denis

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

I suspect that it doesn't appear in the list because it is encrypted and that I need a data flash to decrypt the chip, correct?
If it's encrypted, you're wasting time trying to decrypt it. We don't offer assistance in decrypting anything, per our rules.

The chip is a bq20z955
this makes partial sense to me but you're not going to be able to unseal the battery, per my research.

IMHO, you can source a replacement battery for as low as $20;
https://www.amazon.com/Battery-AS07B31-AS07B51-AS07B41-AS07B42/dp/B071S1CGPD
For all that effort you're going through, I'd save time and get the replacement battery.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
I agree it would be simpler to buy a new one, but I don't want to spend money on it - plus, I love the satisfaction of fixing things myself.

You mentioned you don't think it's possible to unlock it. When you say that, do you mean it can't be decrypted at all, or that even if decrypted it still couldn't be reset?
