Hi,
Around 6 months ago I purchased an Acer Aspire E5-511-P59S laptop, but when I tried booting it yesterday, I got the common "No Bootable Device" message. I've tried taking out my hard drive and putting it back in, checking for loose cables, and I even tightened the HDD case, but nothing seems to work. Are there any solutions that don't require me to replace the HDD and/or wipe my current hard drive?

Additionally: I have another, older Acer Aspire 7739 series (I'm typing on that right now) with a similar hard drive. If all goes awry while trying to fix my current hard drive, would it be viable to replace an E5-511 series laptop hard drive with that of a 7739 series?

The hard disk may have failed but if the machine is set to boot from the optical drive first and if there's a non-bootable disk in that drive, it won't go on as far as the hard disk to find something bootable. So it stalls at that pointand throws that message.

Is there a disk in the CD/DVD drive?

My CD/DVD drive area is actually empty, so there is no disk in it.

It's also probably worth mentioning the exact series of events leading up to the message, which I seemed to have forgotten.

I was playing a game when my screen froze, but I could still move around my cursor. I waited about 20 minutes of not being able to alt+tab, start menu, or ctrl+alt+delete out of it, before doing a hard shutdown on my laptop. I have no idea if the problem happened when it froze, or when I did the hard shutdown, but hopefully the behaviour I just mentioned will be a clue to someone more savvy.
