I've seen multiple threads on a similar topic, but none had a solution I was looking for.

Just the other day I got my Acer GN246HL monitor, capable of 144hz. However, it's stuck on 60hz max. When I try to change it in Windows Settings, it doesn't give me any options over 60hz. I'm using the dual link DVI cable that came with the monitor. I tried using AMD Radeon settings and setting a custom 144hz resolution, but it said that it wasn't compatible with my monitor. It's maximum reported refresh rate is 75 hz.

I have an overclocked AMD Radeon HD 8570 and wondering if that's where the problem is coming from.

Thank you in advance.

That's odd, both your card and your monitor should support dual-link DVI for 144Hz refresh rate. I have the same monitor running off the R7 IGP in my A10-7870K and it works great at 144 Hz. The max refresh rate you're seeing matches up for what I get using my R7 250 dGPU (single-link DVI) with DVI or VGA. Is your HD 8570 OEM-customized and missing the physical AMD branding on it? I'd check the DVI connector on your card and make sure it doesn't have 2 columns of contacts missing in the center of the 4x8 array of pins (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#Connector if I made that too confusing 😀 ) If it does, it means your card only has single-link DVI connector and you're outta luck with that card 🙁

Sorry for the extremely late response, I ended up contacting Acer support and after an hour of tweaking around with my settings with Acer Live Support, they told me the monitor is defective. So I contact Newegg (where I bought it from) and got a replacement which just arrived today. It still doesn't work. My card has the correct DVI connector. Can I ask are you using the DVI cable that came with the monitor? Also, what drivers are you using?

I am indeed using the bundled cable, and haven't had any problems from day one with any of the drivers I've used. I've just installed 16.1.1 yesterday and no problems with the refresh rate there either, and I didn't bother to use DDU this time (I really should though). I even have an old HD 4350 AGP that can use 144 Hz with the built-in Windows drivers and bundled cable. Try the DDU-and-reinstall treatment and see if that helps. I've had all sorts of problems in the past because I didn't use DDU, although none were refresh-rate related.

DDU didn't help, tried reinstalling my drivers but still no 144hz.
Have you tried updating your drivers?
I have tried that, didn't work either.

I'm starting to think that my graphics card or its drivers doesn't support 144hz. I sent a support ticket to AMD, waiting for a response.

Sometimes if you install drivers from microsoft it does not install the most reliable drive for your screen make or model. It basically puts a generic driver. Try using the manufactures website and see if they have the driver there.

I know its a bit late but none of you guys witht the same problem spoken about it being fixed....
Is it??

I"m using a 1070 STRIX OC 8GB and I tried 3 DVI-D DUAL LINK capable wires and every time i bump it over 60hz it says <INCORRECT CABLE> with a picture of a DVI D DUAL LINK male plug image.

using lastest nvidia drivers and drivers installed from acer's website... NVIDIA sees it as a GN246HL ACER monitor...HELP US!

I am not sure if this is the windows setting you changed, but I've had the same issue with this same monitor not hitting 144 hz, even with a dual link DVI cable. There is a hidden setting in Windows that caps it at 60 hz. To find this setting (in Windows 10), go to Settings > System > Display. Then, under Multiple Displays, there's a link for "Advanced Display Settings", click on that. Then, click on the link "Display Adaptor Properties for Display 1". Then it should bring up a small window titled "Generic PnP monitor and Radeon RX 570 Series properties" (or whatever GPU you have). Click on the second tab in that window labeled "Monitor" and it should bring have a drop down with your options of refresh rates. According to your GPU you have overclocked, it doesn't seem like it is a discrete GPU. Is this on a laptop or a desktop?

i FIXED it , so just uninstall ur display driver from device manager and restart . you get ur 144hz
what i figured is During windows update it installed some generic update to monitor display just uninstall and enjoy
