Hello, my acer laptop will not run windows. The start up repair indicates I have a bad hard disk. How can this be fixed? Will I get to keep any of my information?

If hard drive is bad, you need to replace it. After you need to use the recovery discs to restore Windows and default apps. Just like the day you bought.

Don't have recovery discs? Laptop owners are supposed to burn those discs, but never do and regret it later when hard drive fails. Solution: buy the discs from Acer website (for your specific laptop model). Will cost about $25 US.

As for your data in the defective drive, you might able to get them if you use an USB to SATA adapter and plug it in another computer. It becomes an external drive. Your data might be recoverable. Professional data recovery is quite expensive.

Good luck.
