Hi there Tom's Hardware, I need your help please.

My venerable 470gtx died a few days ago, and after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to a Sapphire 3gb R9 280x card.

Now it's all installed, seated correctly and connected to the PSU, but when I connect my Acer S243HL monitor, there is nothing apart from the "cable not connected" message dancing around the screen, mocking me.

I've tried installing the card into a different PCI-e slot and I have tried 2 different brand new HDMI cables but to no avail.

Motherboard is only 6 months old, an Asus M5A97 and I have a brand new Cooler Master v850 as a power supply

I really hope you guys can help.

I've tried the different ports on the monitor and the card has only 1 HDMI port. Can't install the driver, as I can't boot the computer as the monitor won't even display the POST screen just that "cable is not connected" message.

Gtx driver has been uninstalled.

Yes, there is power going to the GPU, all necessary cables are installed.

I just put my 470gtx back in, and the monitor detects that, the "cable not connected" message goes away, but no luck with the new card.

Tried your solution and still no dice. I suspect a faulty card, as that "cable not connected" message would turn off if the monitor detects any video card even if the computer is off.
