I have a 3080 ti + r5 5600 and would want 240 hz so that I can get good resolution and higher frames but I am worried about the overshoot on the Acer. The Acer is just 50 bucks more at $250.

I am not sure that the GPU is going to be able to run AAA games at 240hz, but for esports games, it should be fine. The CPU may also limit the GPU in said esports games even at 1440p, but regardless, I would probably go for the Acer due to the higher refresh rate, but I am not sure about the overshoot you mentioned.

I guess I can use the monitor as also future proof for when I get a system upgrade. Seems like the only downside is that the LG has better visuals

That is a tough choice. I personally would go for the higher refresh rate one always, unless it is a higher than 120HZ OLED, because I am a sucker for OLED. with regards to your question, I say go with the Acer, but it is your choice.
