I'm a graduating senior going to college soon, and I've been researching laptops that fit my budget. I've narrowed down two that fit my desired specs (Acer and Asus), but I've heard extremely bad things about Acer.

The two are:
Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition VN7-591G-77FS
ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS74

Each has an i7 4720HQ @ 2.6 GHz, GTX960M (2G Asus, 4G Acer), 16GB DDR3 ram, 1TB HDD. The only real difference is the 128GB SSD in the Asus and the 256 SSD in the Acer laptop, which is a big factor. They're the same price, while one has more storage than the other.

The Acer laptop doesn't have any reviews that I can see at all. The Asus one does though, and they're mostly positive.

Which would be a better investment? Does Acer also honor their warranty?

Solution
Asus is the better choice as they have the better cooling. They are also very good with heavy intensive tasks such as video editing and 3d modelling.

Not at all; I picked Asus for the same reasons you leaned towards Asus. Overall, Asus has better components, better build, less problems, and if I were to buy a new laptop it would be Asus. I do not want to bash Acer or any other brand here. I stay away from Acer, Gateway, and emachines.

Other alternatives are Sony and Toshiba.

Before making your final purchase, please read reviews and customer feedback on the brands you are considering, from a few websites. Consider this a college project; use an Excel spreadsheet for your comparisons and assign subjective values (both positive as well as negative) for all attributes considered. If you want to get more fancy, try a Matrix analysis and the winner will be very clear.
