I was in cambodia with school for 6 months and windows did an update that froze my aspire s3. I went to a computer place and they reinstalled windows and office that did work though later a popup would tell me it was a copy of one of them. The partition relating to opening or downloading stuff from my email was very small after i recieved from this repair place thus a IT guy at school increased a partition somehow which caused all to fail. Now back in civilisation i am trying to install windows from cds i got from acer when the harddrive failed last year but i get an error message at the last moments saying it cant copy an image. what should i be doing now i cannot afford another round of repairs for nothing ... Please any advice would be great as i need to get this going for school.

When the IT guy increased the partition, he likely deleted the factory restore image, which is what the ACER disks need in order to reinstall. The ACER disks are just the repair boot loader disks and they need the factory restore image that clearly is no longer there due to the tampering with the OS and partitions that was done previously. Does your laptop still have the license key sticker on it and can you read the product keys?

I would recommend doing a clean install but you need a valid license key. Is the key on the ACER disks? If so, I may be able to help. If not, you will need to purchase the windows operating system new.

Thanks for taking the time darkbreeze i am away from the laptop at the moment but should be back tomorrow i hope. Yes there is a sticker with product stuff on the bottom of the s3 clear and readable. The disks im not sure about i.ll check as soon as i arrive. Thanks again ill definately be intouch.

Ok back again, i found the windows key on the back and ready to give something a try.
could you give me a basic idea of what steps i should take.
