Seems like a good value, as long as it has good enough colors, contrast, etc.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for 4k to become standard, because these kind of monitors could feel obsolete very quickly.

Amazon has it on pre-order for $279

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426529378&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+1440

That isn't the same monitor pictured here.

Cannot be found on Amazon. The link posted above is for a similar G257HU monitor. When compared on Acer's own site, the main difference between the two monitors seems to be that the H model is heavier, bulkier, consumes less power when off and comes with a DisplayPort cable. Hardly worth the extra $90 if you ask me...

Dang, just missed. I've been waiting on the perfect monitor for me to come out, 1440p/1600p, 24-25" or so with a small bezel, and variable refresh rates... had this had some type of variable refresh rate support I'd probably be online buying it right now... so close.

Unfortunately it's unlikely you'll see 1440/1600p in sub<27" territory.

That being said, what you're looking for in 27" territory definitely exists. Honestly, I thought it'd be too large but 27" looks great on the desk and it doesn't feel too large.

I was looking for something like this WQHD IPS (though preferring 27 in.but only having a 25 in. budget). The $279.99 item referred to above at Amazon (and I had put it in my shopping cart, though not yet checked out!) is the Acer G257HU smidpx, p/n UM.KG7AA.002 on Acer's site for $279.99 that Amazon has for pre-order. Item shows as without a display port cable (HDMI and DVI only) and weight w/stand 7.72 lbs, black cross-type stand with a constant black bezel surround. The item in this press release is also listed on the Acer site as the H257HU smidpx, p/n UM.KH7AA.001, for $369.99 (though when you click on Acer's link for more info the next page lists it at $999.99!), and with display port, HDMI and DVI cables and the silver circular stand and very thin top and side bezels and a weight w/stand of 8.16 lbs. Two different monitors, though probably with similar screens.

I know this all too well, which is why I was excited to read about a 25" 1440p monitor. Currently I'm using a 24" 16x10 (1920x1200) but it has such a huge bezel on it that it ends up being about 22.5-23" wide even though the actual screen is only about 20.3" wide.

This Acer screen has such a small bezel that it's a 25" 16x9 that is only 22.44" wide so sits on my desk at nearly the exact same width but it's all screen... and also doesn't lose that much physical vertical view due to the aspect ratio.

I would much prefer this to be 16:10 and support some form of variable sync, preferably G-Sync but I'd be willing to switch camps if I found a perfect monitor. There is nothing I find more frustrating in gaming that dealing with V-Sync, tearing, or judder when I know full well that variable refresh monitors are out there.

With the way my desk sits a 27", even at 16x10, is going to end up at least 23" (23.5+ for 16x9) without a bezel around it yet, so it's likely to not fit in my setup... I might have to get creative with my desk instead of waiting on a perfect monitor though. I've been waiting quite a while.

Article at end says, "UPDATE 3/16/15, 11:40am PST: This monitor is available now on Newegg, Amazon, TigerDirect and in the reseller channel."
UPDATE 3/17/15, 4:45pm CST: This monitor is NOT available at Newegg, Amazon, or TigerDirect. Search on all three sites yields no results.
