If your mobo reports a fan error and the BIOS cannot detect a fan speed, there is a problem with the speed signal's path to the CPU_FAN port. The speed signal is a pulse train (2 pulses per rev) sent from the fan motor to the mobo on Pin #3 of the port. To identify pins, the mobo port has a tongue sticking up in the area of pins 1-3, and not extending to the Pin #4 area. Wire colors are normally: #1 Black (Ground), #2 Yellow (+12 VDC), #3 Green (Speed signal), #4 Blue (PWM signal).
Check for poor wire connection, bent pins, loose connector in the female socket on the end of the fan's wires.
