activating house lights turns my screen off for 3 seconds

Hi, when someone turns on/off the light near my room (toilet) my screen turns off for 3 seconds and then it turns back on. It doesnt happens all the time but its annoying especially when i play games.
Its not an electricity problem cause i called an electrician to check this and he said the problem comes from my pc.
Is he right? If so what can i do to solve it?

Can you try a smaller (lower wattage) bulb?

Another power socket is the other thing to try.

Here are a couple of things that you can check to help get a better idea of what's going on.

Does the bathroom light have an over-head fan/heater combo that turns on/off along with the light? These systems can cause minor voltage fluctuations in your circuit.

Try running an extension cord to another outlet that's on a different circuit (breaker) than the bathroom light. This will at least isolate the problem to an interaction with the bathroom light circuit.

I fear that you may have a power supply issue within your computer monitor. If it's this sensitive to voltage fluctuations, then it may be on it's way out. How old is it?

Also my electritian said that my bathroom doesn't have any connection with my room.Also theres nothing like over-head fan

Well, it doesn't sound like a fix is going to be easy and straightforward. Best thing to do now is to isolate the problem. Since your computer is made up of many pieces that could effect a screen blackout, you need to determine the interactions and perhaps replace faulty components.

First thing you'll need to do is find out a way to consistently turn off the monitor by flipping the bathroom light on/off. Once you narrow down this failure mechanism, you can move onto trying to isolate the problem area. The mechanism might be something like: Turn on light, wait 5 seconds, turn off light. Or.. toggle light off then on within 2 seconds. Once you can consistently reproduce the "screen turning off" failure, you're in good shape to move on.

Next step is to start trying different parts in your computer. One at a time, replace a particular part in your signal chain from the computer to the monitor. Start with the big pieces: computer, monitor, monitor signal cable (HDMI/DVI/etc), monitor power cable, computer power cable.

If you have a spare monitor, swap it out and try to reproduce your problem. If the problem still exists, move onto the next component. Just remember to do tests one at a time. You're trying to isolate the faulty part.

Hopefully you'll be able to find the suspect part quickly.
