Active and Passive Adapter Question

I have a DVI cable with a DVI to DP Active Adapter. If I added a passive DP to mini DP onto the end would it still actively output data to my third monitor?

Adding a passive adapter into the mix should not change how things currently work. It's a little difficult to get at what you mean. DVI to DP adapters are rare-they almost always work the other way around. Most video cards are limited to two dvi/hdmi/vga signals but are not limited with respect to the number of displayport outputs. There are, of course, variations on what is supported.
It sounds to me like you have two screens connected to the dvi/hdmi outputs and mini dp to dp passive connected to a dp to dvi active adapter. If that is the case, your three screens should work.

I've got two legacy connections and a third as DVI to DP active. My concern was that the output from my third connection since it has to be DP/mini DP would be shunted by the passive adapter before it reached the active one.

In other words, GPU mini DP ---> mini DP to DP passive adapter ---> DP to DVI active adpater ---> DVI cable ---> DVI monitor

Should work- a passive adapter just passes on the exact same signal without changing it, so it won't remove anything unless there are pins missing from it. You never know quite what you are getting with adapters until you try them.

Ok, that would make sense since all native video signals are DP. Just wanted to confirm
