Active Matrix, TFT LCD vs. a-si TFT/TN

What is the difference between an "Active Matrix, TFT LCD" and an "a-si TFT/TN"? Is one a better technology than another?

I'm trying to decide which of these two monitors I'd like to purchase:

Don't buy the 226BW. It's a good monitor, but only if you get an "S" panel. That monitor uses three different kinds of LCD, made by Samsung, Chi Mei, and AUO. Samsung puts an S, C, or A on the monitors label, depending on which panel it contains. If you calibrate the screen the C and A models look pretty much the same as the S model, but there are other problems as well, such as ghosting, banding, backlight bleeding, ect.

A-si is a type of technology generally used by many active matrix LCD panels.

Basically all 22" LCD uses 6-bit TN panel technology. TN represents the least expensive type of technology used for LCD panels.

Nowadays, all LCD panels whether in desktop or laptop monitors are all Active Matrix. Passive Matrix tech died some time ago and good riddance; really, really bad display tech.

All LCD panel in all PC monitors and HDTV are active matrix panels.

However, there are different panel techs:

TN - Inexpensive and good enough for most people.

S-PVA / P-MVA - More expensive and overall better

IPS - Most expensive panel tech and best for color accuracy.

however in regards to the opening question, ""Active Matrix TFT LCD" vs. "a-si TFT/TN"?" they are for simplicities sake the same, both are active matrix, both are TFT tech, and both are TN panels" different jargon by different companies for the same technology. active matrix TFT LCD w/TN panel vs. active matrix a-si TFT LCD w/TN panel. since all that matters to me is TN/*-*VA/IPS panel the other terms might as well be the same.
