Has anyone considered that they are going to take on the development team or their work and release a commercial product based on their work or perhaps develop the series again in a new form, since they now see that there are fans out there that will support the game, perhaps even if it's not free for the long time fans.

They are too busy figuring out how to release Starcraft 2 in three parts at full price for each one and still make it seem like you are getting a full game each time.

Remember the days when the Activision name meant you were probably getting a good game? Back before Robert Kotick, Mr. "I'm taking the fun out of making games?" When that bastard dies in a fire, maybe it'll be worth buying Activision games again. Until then, screw them.

Unless Activision is planning its own King's Quest Sequel, this is a very bad move.

I hope the activision is actually going to use this IP for something great... otherwise I will be very very disappointed....

8 years of hard work and then told by new management to get lost. That really is a shame.

[citation][nom]helldog3105[/nom]Activision said it best in one of their either quarterly or annual reviews. "We will not pursue IP that cannot be 'exploited' on a yearly basis." So in other words, for all of your good old rehashed same old S%&*, buy Activision. To see what they do to products just look at World of Warcraft. How long did it take the first expansion to come out? Then very quickly the next expansion came out, and it was buggy as hell. Exploited is the exact wording that was used too. I'm not making that up. You would never see World of Warcraft Soda before Activision bought up Blizzard. What gets me is why don't they work out a contract to sell the damn game? There are many fans of classic adventure games that were watching this very closely. Now I will never have a chance to play it, let alone buy a copy of it. This is Activision showing how stupid they can truly be.[/citation]

Huh? Blizzard said they would release an expansion every 2 years before they were involved with Activision. They have done so. The first expansion was only delayed by 2 months and the second one was on schedule. How is a 2 month delay a significant difference on a 2 year schedule?

I do agree with mostly everyone here though. Activision is just creating bad publicity, giving people yet another reason to dislike them. I personally have no interest in the game but after reading this, chalk up another negative for Activision. I used to like this company as well back in the MechWarrior 2 days.

That totally blows. I have been following this project since it's inception have wondered if it would ever come to pass. Even played the Demo that they released with high anticipation. Even in 2005 was surprised about the changes that they had to make at the demands of Vivendi and now Activision shuts them down. Just injustice on all accounts. What really stinks is now I am torn since I am also following D3 with much anticipation.

ok activision, how about you release your own kings quest sequel then.... no? You want to make another CoD? Well then why bother shutting this down then?

I sincerely hope Activision franchise goes to die. I for one will never again buy their games. What did they thought, that we would just agree with that!? They have customers for a reason, if they betray their customers like they are doing right now they will end up in a tick wall.

This kind of thing happens all the time. Fans want to continue or remake games of a particular franchise and are shot down by the IP owners. Here's an idea... why not come up with and original idea for a game instead of relying of the work of others.

[citation][nom]Xenophage[/nom]This has happened a LOT with Sierra games. Sierra used to be the greatest game company around. I was a huge follower of the Space Quest and King's Quest series. Ever since the company was acquired back in the mid 90's their old franchises have been left to rot and fan-based efforts have been thwarted by lawyers. It's the saddest story in computer gaming.I grew up on Sierra games.[/citation]

So was I.. I still have all the 5 1/4" floppies (have no way of using them though) of Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest and Space Quest. Those were fun times.

Maybe they want to sell the game for phones "After talks and negotiations in the last few months between ourselves and Activision, they have reached the decision that they are not interested in granting a non-commercial license..."

Then again, maybe it will not go anywhere "and have asked that we cease production"

Haha! Police Quest was my first on-hands experience with a pirated game. I never did get it to work...

I remember I bough one of the King Quest it was something like 25 floppy disk just like Win95 which in turn was a pain when you needed to reinstall drivers lol :)

As a kid I used to play that game (and many other Sierra titles) on an Apple II GS, waiting an eternity for the screen to change from one to the next... ah fond memories - Thank You, Activision, for reminding us what bastards corporations can be. Any chance of me spending money on Activision products was terminated along with this project.
