Hi, i'm new on this forum and I've a question:

I have a MB Asus M5A78L-M LX3 and i was wandering to improve the speed of my pc with an SSD, but i notice that the MB don't support nmve but has a pci-e x1 port.
If i buy an adapter from pci-e x1 to m2, could it works? Can i install my OS on the ssd to improve the start of my pc?

Thank you

Why don't you just buy a 2.5" SATA SSD?
M.2 is just a form factor... there are M.2 SATA SSDs that'll run at the same speeds as a 2.5" SATA SSD and there are M.2 NVMe SSDs which utilise PCIe lanes and are usually faster.

Even if you buy a M.2 NVMe SSD you'll be limited by the PCIe x1 slot(they'll usually need x2 or x4 PCIe lanes to run at their rated speeds)... the speeds will be simillar to a 2.5" SATA SSD, because you're not providing enough bandwidth through the PCIe x1 slot to the drive and you'll pay more money for basically nothing.

Just save yourself from the hassle of using an adapter and buy a 2.5" SATA SSD.
