Hello fellow esteemed members;

I have been given a unit of the DGORDT KS602 2-Port KVM Switch.

I have a host computer (HP ProBook 640 G1) with a native DisplayPort connector; because the KVM switch supports only HDMI input, I believe, I will need a DisplayPort male to HDMI female adapter to connect my host computer to the aforementioned KVM switch.

Do I need a passive or active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter?

Display Port and HDMI are very different display protocols, they are not interchangeable. If the ProBook had a native HDMI plug then use that, otherwise you are going to need an active converter.
@palladin9479, thank you very much for the valuable information and advice.

The KVM switch's cable to connect a host computer, is a splitter cable with dual connectors: a male USB type-A and a male HDMI; the other end of the KVM switch's cable completes the connection via male HDMI. The ProBook 640 G1's specifications on the manufacturer's (HP) website, indicates the laptop's native DisplayPort connector is dual-mode.

I was considering purchasing a male DisplayPort-to-female HDMI adapter (StarTech brand, below URL), that would allow me to connect the male HDMI connector of the KVM switch's splitter cable to the female end of the StarTech adapter and plug its male DisplayPort end to the female DisplayPort port of the laptop.

Am I being stupid, or would my purchase suffice?
