[SOLVED] Adaptive Brightness on Computer Monitors?

Hello...

Pretty self explanatory title... I'm looking at buying a new monitor for my desktop computer, these are my requirements:

• No less than 1080p resolution
• IPS technology because colours
• No more than £150
• At least 24 inches (21" is acceptable, but not preferred)

So overall, i'm looking for a basic 1080p monitor.... but, i'm also looking for a monitor that has adaptive brightness, which basically automatically adjusts the brightness based on ambient light so they both match. Phones have this and I find it very useful as my eyes are kind of sensitive to such things. Despite doing research I can't find such a monitor anywhere (except some expensive ones) but maybe someone here knows of one? I am willing to go above £150 if I can find such a feature, but still not crazy expensive.

As far as adaptive brightness goes, that feature, yes, is present on mobile phones and laptops as well, mainly to save battery power. For desktop PCs with standalone monitor, that feature is unnecessary since desktop PCs don't have issue running out of power.

For a workaround, many monitors have several profiles in them which you can switch in-between to match your desired viewing. E.g my MSI Optix MAG241CR has 8 different profiles that i can choose from and also customize each and every one. Either from monitor settings or from dedicated software that is used with MSI monitors.

Then again, i have high-end gaming monitor in use, which would cost you 200 quid (amazon.uk).

Well I don't care about power consumption or anything like that. The issue is that I need the monitor to balance itself with ambient lightning automatically, because my eyes have issues and are quite sensitive, so I was advised by my optician to look for that option since it can help. There is quite a bit of studying ahead of me, and I am forced to stare at my monitor for extensive periods to actually do it so that kind of thing would of have been quite helpful alongside other measures of course.

The profile thing does sound like a good alternative though, aren't there any 'non-gaming' monitors that have that sort of thing? The one you linked is cool but... 144hz and the curve are quite excessive for what I want considering I have zero interests in gaming. Thanks for your help anyway, if you or anyone else knows a monitor on the more 'normal' side with profiles like that gaming one, then please let me know.

After some digging, i managed to find two of the very few monitors that have the Ambient Light Sensor built-in and they do change the brightness based on ambient light, once you've enabled it in monitor's settings.

As seen from their price, both of them are high-end business monitors. I doubt that you'd see any cheaper monitors with that convenient feature (Ambient Light Sensor) in it.

Thank you for the links. Obviously way out of my budget. Really sucks how that exists only on advanced monitors and not basic 1080p ones. Don't really get why as they could easily implement it on any monitor. I'll just get a basic IPS display like the ones you linked originally and adjust brightness manually if its too bright or too moody.

Update: I found an IPS monitor from Benq that has an ambient light sensor!!!! It goes for £139 ONLY and it can be found here (BL2480T)

I just received it today as a matter of fact and it does adjust brightness on it's own. It takes the monitor a while to notice sudden light changes but it does adjust itself eventually. Colours are also far better than my last monitor because this is an IPS while my old one was an LED monitor. It can also physically rotate to be like a portrait display which is cool but you need to go to Windows settings everytime you rotate just to switch between portrait and landscape.

Overall happy with it, I'm glad I found a cheap self-adjusting eye care monitor. Just posting all this information in case anyone else is looking for the same thing but well as far as I see, this is the only monitor with those features that goes for that cheap.
