Add another 8800 GTX in SLI or upgrade to new cards?

I'm currently running one eVGA 8800 GTX in my present system. For the money (~$350-400) would I see better performance adding another 8800 GTX in SLI or getting a pair of mid-range current generation (9XXX or 2XX)? I don't want to spend more than another single 8800 GTX card would cost. Thanks!

Andrew

Having seen the 8800gtx priced at $199, I wouldn't spend 350-400 on one. Having said that, as good as the 8800gtx is/was, if I couldn't afford to buy a gtx280 I wouldn't buy anything until next May/June when we'll all see the benchmarks for the new cards. Stay away from the 9XXX...... pissing your money away for sure.

It's true, the 8800 GTX is still a pricey card given it's age. It's been great, but I just bought a 24" LCD, so I'd like to still get good performance at 1900x1200! I kind of tuned out of the GPU news last year when I was running strong with the 8800 GTX, so I haven't kept up with the numbers to see if the current generation mid-range cards can match the older high-end cards.

Go for nothing right now the 8800gtx should perform well enough to at least see you through to the next gen of card. Take the money you want to spend save it. Add to that money until you have $600 by that time the next gen of cards will be out then you can buy the best of the best ^.^

Now on that same token if you had a lesser of last gen card i would suggest an SLI setup such as you have one 8800gt and are thinking about an SLI setup. however this is not the case.
