I have an HP ProDesk G1 i5-4570 with display port. The display port or integrated video has failed - get bios screen then black screen but computer seems to boot up fine. The computer isn't configured for internet access.
What would happen if I purchased an inexpesive GT 730 off ebay and popped it in? Would I get the desktop? No way to install a driver until I can see the desktop access the internet and download from nvidia.

If you're able to see the BIOS while you don't have a discrete GPU, that would mean your iGPU is functional, it's only your drivers/OS that might be corrupt.

Try and clear the CMOS and see if that helps. I would look into reinstalling the OS but using a spare drive to see if you get display out.

Can you hook your prebuilt to your router/ISP using ethernet?
