Question Added second graphics card, PC became laggy

I had a GTX 770 and a GTX 780ti. I pulled the 770 and replaced it with a 2080ti.

With the 2080ti + 780ti is eventually boots, but is extremely slow and laggy.

When I pull the 780ti, it boots up just fine. When I pull the 2080ti...it does NOT boot. Is it possible that I borked my 780ti? I even tried upgrading the PSU to add more power in case that was the problem.

I have done the DDU and driver reinstall. No change.

You do not need the 780ti in your computer because 2080ti is more powerful and can run games on good settings and looks like connecting them both together is making these two GPU battle with each other. So i suggest playing with 2080ti and install the GPU drivers and your free to go.

This machine is used exclusively for 3D work and GPU rendering. My hope was to use the 780ti to run my monitors in order to free up my 2080ti. My MOBO GPU is too weak to output to both monitors.

You do not need the 780ti in your computer because 2080ti is more powerful and can run games on good settings and looks like connecting them both together is making these two GPU battle with each other. So i suggest playing with 2080ti and install the GPU drivers and your free to go.

I had a 650W Corsair. Just upgraded to 850 (RM850x I believe). But I have the machine plugged into a power meter and it's not drawing anywhere near that.

Dude don't worry about the 780ti, the 2080ti is literally one of the best GPU's out there. I'd suggest taking your 780ti out and giving the 2080ti a run by itself that should stop the lag because as XxDarkMario20xX said they will simply just be fighting eachother. 😊

What motherboard? Which slot is each card plugged into, and are both monitors plugged into the 780 Ti?

It's a GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 R2. 2080ti is in the 16x slot, 780ti is in the 8x slot. So far I'm just using one monitor, and I've tried it plugged into just the 780ti or just the 2080ti with no difference.

Make sure whichever slot the 780 Ti is in is selected as the default display output in the BIOS. Maybe try putting the 780 Ti in the primary x16 slot and see if that helps. Both slots will be running at x8 anyway if they're both populated, so you won't lose any bandwidth for the 2080 Ti.

I think I tried switching the slots and it was still acting badly. I'll have to try that switch in BIOS, though.
