Adding a power supply!

Hi guys. I plan on adding a second Power Supply unit to my sytem because I need a lot of power. 400W PSU are out of price for me and 250W are pretty cheap. Do you think it you be possible to simply add another power supply? ( I have a full-tower with enough room in it )

I figure the biggest challenge will be to find a way to turn on the power supply (Like when you press the power button).

I'm open to any tips and suggestions.

Thanks!

well, depending on if it is an AT or an ATX PS. With an AT PS you can just have another switch on the front of the case to turn on that second powersupply. with an ATX you could do some splicing :) i think the green wire ( Do NOt Quote Me!!) is the "remote" wire. you may be able to use that to turn it on for you. I am going to do 2 PS's. the second one will be an AT P/s and it will be for my Peltier :)

I am going to assume this is an ATX power supply you are talking about? ATX has one big power plug not 2 really close together ones.
just find the right place to buy a 400watt?
i have found 300watt for like 29$ and 400 for around 55$
this is too much? i spend more than that on gas in 2 weeks
Also? why do you need 400 watt, i have a gforce2gts athlon 850cpu 512meg ram(just purchased) 2 hdd, scsi card and burner dvd drive and about 5 fans and 300 watt is enough for me.

Also, if you just need to add on for drives you could rig up a AT power supply for the drives and such. since these dont require a ready to power signal from the mainboard.
but this is probably not going to work out well as far as where would you put the pwr supply etc.
My recommendation is to check out www.pricewatch.com for a bigger pwr supply

Ah! Excellent idea. I haven't tought about an AT power supply. Luckily, I already have an old 235W AT PS gathering dust right next to my computer (silly me). I need another power supply for a peltier, which requires a LOT of power.
