I just bought a Dell S2725QC monitor which has a USB-C Display Port Alt Mode socket which is fine for displaying video and charging my laptop.

What I would like to do is connect my desktop PC to this port but there's no compatible USB-C DP Alt Mode port on the motherboard. Can anyone tell me what hardware I can buy that would allow me to do this? For example, is there a PCIe expansion card that would add a USB-C DP Alt Mode Port to the PC? Alternatively, is there a Display Port 1.2 converter that can do this (the PC's only HDMI port is already being used for a second monitor).

I tried a couple of cables which had a Display Port or HDMI male on one end and a USB-C male on the other but neither worked (I'm not even sure what these cables are for).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Monitor has two HDMI ports. Use those instead. A regular HDMI-HDMI cable necessary.

If your pc has no free HDMI ports left, then use Display Port to HDMI adapter.
Note. DP to HDMI adapter cable is unidirectional - works in one direction only.
Direction is signal source (PC) to target(monitor).

For using USB-C (DP alt mode) port you'd need a graphics card with appropriate USB-C (DP alt mode) port.
You probably don't have that.

There are some RX 7900 XT models with USB-C port on them.

Many thanks for the helpful reply. I've ordered what is described as a "Display Port 1.2 to HDMI Active Converter" so I'm hoping this will do the job. Certainly, the easiest way to add ports is a GPU but the cost is prohibitive given all I'm after is an additional port. If I could find a low profile, budget friendly ITX size model with at least two HDMI ports on it, I'd be tempted. I'll keep looking. Thanks again.
