I found a computer with a 250g HDD. I took it because it was free and didn't want to pass up free stuff. I want to add that hard drive to my existing one in my dell vostro which currently has windows 8 on it. The old hard drive had vista on it. Do I need to put windows 8 on it first then add it into my dell or what? Please help

Solution
1. Unplug the old HD data cable.

2. Plug new HD into SATA 0 port

3. Install Windows, install all drivers / utilities from original CD.

4. Run Windows update over and over till it says "no mas" (no more updates available)

5. Check hardware vendor web sites for updated drivers.

6. Reconnect old HD cable.

:??:
This is apparently just an extra drive. None of that is needed.

Power down
Connect the new drive
Power up
Format as needed
Continue...
