Adding memory is causing BSOD's (Win10/DDR4 2400 Mhz)

Hey guys,

I'm runing a i5-6500 Skylake on an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming MB. I started out with 2x4Gb DDR4 2400Mhz RAM from Kingston but my goal was to have 16Gb RAM. Yesterday I bought another 2x4Gb but once I added those all hell broke lose and I started geting BSOD's every 3 or 4 minutes.

The MB detects the RAM correctly (4x4Gb DDR4 2400Mhz) and the OS detects 16Gb also.

My RAM:
All are: HX424C12FB/4
2 un - 9905622-042.A00LF (first 8Gb)
2 un - 9905622-056.A00LF (the ones I got yesterday)

Now, I know i5-6500 supports only up to DDR4 2133 and I'm getting 2400Mhz BUT, the first 8Gb worked flawlessly and it's runing 12GB DDR4 2400Mhz as I type this.

What I did so far:
- Windows MEMTEST: Runing the test with all 16GB warns about some hardware problem as soon as it starts.
- Tried every mix/trade imaginable between all the memory I have. 16Gb doesn't work.
- All memories work in just about any combination (4GB, 8GB, 12Gb), just not 16Gb.
- All MB memory slots seem to work fine, just not ALL at the same time.
- Even reinstaled the OS (Win 10 Pro 64)
- Lowered the RAM speed to 2133Mhz in the MB Bios. Now... to be fair I dind't dive too deep into this solution. Mybe I shoud have tried even lower speeds.....

Any ideas?

Thx in advance.

Man... I tell ya, everyitme I have RAM related problems it feels like dealing with frigin witchcraft. NOT science.

Regarding mixing set of RAM: They ARE mixed as we speak. I'm runing 12Gb and the ones in dualchannel aren't from the same set. Go figur.

Never thought about raising the voltage tbh. But I'll try it and report back.

Thx for the help.

Update

Tried bumping the voltage by 0.03V twice with no result.

Tbh I think it got worse each time I bumped it. The second time the computer didn't even booted completly.

So, to anyone looking for information about this:
Z170+i5-6500 is able to use DDR4-2400Mhz but only up to 4x3 DIMM 4Gb (12Gb total). Anything beyond this point, you're on your own.

All that's left for me now is: sell mine and get 2x8Gb 2133.

*sigh*
