Adding RAM, need some help

Hey guys!

So, I have a Toshiba Satellite L850-1P9 laptop from 2013. It currently has 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, Intel PLCSF8 motherboard, which supports up to 8GB of RAM. I wanted to add more 4GB of RAM.

I found this Kingston RAM stick: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KVR16S11S8_4.pdf

The specs are mostly the same as my current RAM. 4GB, DDR3, 1600MHz, same voltage (1.5 V), same latency timing (11-11-11), PC3-12800.

However, trfc and tras are a bit different. My current RAM has 28 tRAS and 39 tRC (these are CPU-Z readings). The Kingston has 48.125 tRC and 35 tRAS as you can see on the specs list on the link above.

Will it be safe to add the Kingston RAM? Is the chance of running into problems too high?

I suppose it would be safer if I bought 2 sticks of that Kingston RAM and put them in my laptop, right? That way I would have to spend more money obviously, but if mixing the Kingston stick with my current RAM stick isn't safe/won't work, then I have no other choice I suppose...

What are your thoughts?

Little update here. A reliable store from around here just got a 2x4GB kit from Crucial in stock, and it is compatible with my system. I just ordered it and should arrive on the next few days.

Better spend more money on a kit to guarantee compatibillity than mixing RAM and risking the 2 modules being incompatible with each other.

I'll let you guys know if everything went well with the replacement when I get it. Thank you all for your replies!

In my experience it isn't too high it would be minimal, normally even if you put a faster and a slower Ram you will be using it with the values of the slower one that would work on the faster one.

Already went to their app, but they don't have my exact model available for search.

The closest one I found there was the L850-1PD. However, I can't find the suggested models for sale here in Portugal.

The closest stick to the suggested RAM for the L850-1PD laptop that I was able to find was the one I provided the link to in the first post.

Yeah I knew that if you mix a 1600 MHz RAM with a 1333 MHz RAM, the 1600 one would run at 1333. However, I wasn't sure if the tRAS and the tRC would adjust as well.

Well, I think I'm going to take the risk and order that RAM stick. Let's hope for the best.

I always have the 14 day return policy, no questions asked, if it doesn't works.

I'll probably buy it next week, if not next week, then the week after. I'll post here the results.

Did it as well. However, it's a bit harder to find Crucial stuff around here. Specially the models they recommended for my system. They recommended CT4s, but I can only find their CT5s equivalent (suppose CT4s are discontinued and CT5s are newer models, specs are the same, only difference is the number in the model), and they are a bit overpriced when compared to Kingston sticks.

But yeah, if I can find a Crucial stick at a good price, I'll choose it instead of the Kingston. Crucial has my laptop model available for scan, and I know which models are compatible, while Kingston doesn't.

Thanks for the suggestion!

By the way, look at these 2 models:

From what I understand, the only difference is on those black chips. One model has 4, the other 8. Is that the density or something?

There are also other visual differences, but the specs are the same.

The question is, do I have to match that with my current RAM as well?

Well, cant discern any differences aside from the visual ones too... But the difference in quantity means one has more or less density
Crucial is way better than Kingston qualitywise, btw...and as Micron subsidiary they have their hands on the best dies produced...

Crucial sells online...so thats a plus too!
