I have recently bought an 8 GB stick of PNY 1333mHz RAM to upgrade my PC. However, the blue screen of death came up every time I turned my PC on with the new RAM. Is this because my PC does not support single channel (one stick of RAM)? Thanks...

Solution
All systems support single channel memory. The better question is whether your motherboard supports a single 8GB stick. Depending on the age 4GB double sided might be the maximum or 8GB single sided. 8GB double sided might be too much for the memory controller to address in a single slot.

Just from a quick search I don't think a single 8GB stick of any type will work in that system. Basing that on Crucial's memory upgrade compatibility checker. The largest they list is a 2x4GB kit, no singles.

Thank you! I will be sure to switch to 2x4GB. I really appreciate it!
