I currently have 2 x 16GB sticks installed and I want to add 2 x 32GB sticks.
The 16GB sticks are in slots A2 & B2.
Can I simply install the 32GB sticks in the empty slots A1 & B1 ?

The new sticks are the same make as existing ones, G.Skil Ripjaws, but 32GB instead of 16GB.

See how you go with it and if able to enable xmp, especially with four dimms populated. Mixing ram has it's draw backs and risk of compatibility issues but not always. Ryzen can be fussy about ram so good luck.

Mixing memory is a gamble.
It might work just fine.
It might refuse to boot at all.
It might work at very slow memory speeds.
It might boot and you have occasional freezes and reboots.
We have no Idea how your mixed memory will react.
Your best option is to purchase the total amount of memory you need in a 2 stick matched kit.
Running 4 sticks from a matched kit almost always means running at a slower memory speed.
Mixing usually requires even lower speeds to get them stable.

A few months ago, I tried pretty much exactly this.

Corsair Vengeance
2x16GB

Add:
2x32GB of exactly the same.

Total, 96GB.

System booted up just fine. Recognized all 96GB.
After about 5 mins, ethernet cut out.

Each pair worked on its own just fine.
No combination of all 4 would work. Any stick/slot combination. Same result...no ethernet after a few mins.

So I took out the 2x16GB, and am now running with the 2x32GB.

Starting w/two 16 gb, A2 and b2
moved the b2 to a1 so 2 16gb a1&a2
added 2 32gb to b1 & b2

started - ONLY shows the a1 16gb
Not sure about the xmp, what it is, couldn't find it in the bios

Verified that all chips appear seated properly.

IDEAS welcome

Removed all four chips
Installed one 32gb in slot A2 and the other in B2

Still only shows b2 ??????

When it first starts, immediate voice message something like operating in wired mode:

(same as started w/ the 2 16gb chips.)
Still only shows b2 ??????

When it first starts, immediate voice message something like operating in wired mode:

Switched the 2 32gb chps, a2,b2 and it picks up the 64gb

Coffee, cig and kick the dog, then will try the 16gb chips in the b slots

put the 32gb chips in a1/b1
16gb s in a2/b2
Shows 80gb although bios shows slot i is empty

So I thought I would quit with the 80gb, but it seems to knock out my internet.

Next a1 32/b1 \32 forget the 16gb chips
Soon will know.
