[citation][nom]cpburns[/nom][citation]an "optimized" version of Flash for the Macbook Air[/citation]It would be nice if Adobe got their act together and simply made an optimized version of Flash for all computer platforms. I hate Flash on my quad-core desktop with 8GB of RAM because it's a ridiculously slow, inefficiently designed piece of donkey spunk.[/citation]

I have a quad core with 6gb ram and Flash has absolutely no effect on performance. Maybe you just don't know how to set up a good computer.

I love how Mac has to have everything 'optimized' for it. Think about it. When's the last time that something useful and convenient actually worked on a Mac before being 'optimized' for it?... why can't they just make their aluminum unibody (sexy, I must admit) laptops the same way everyone else does? You don't hear PC users needing 'optimized' programs, now, do you?

Maybe the word 'maintained' would be better understood. Do you understand that Windows and OSX are different? One is based off Unix and the other is based off of, well, I don't know what it is based off of but it is the monopoly in OS market share. So yes, when you have a 90% market share people will 'optimized' or maintain their software like Adobe has. Maybe, just maybe Apple's cries are legitimate and Adobe isn't maintaining or 'optimizing' their software for the mac because they get better bang for buck optimizing the PC version? Just a thought, think about it for a second. Anyway, if you use a PC this really isn't an article for you now is it?

If this issue is limited to Mac's then it's really not a critical issue at all. If anyone is complaining about reduced battery life with Flash then they need to buy a real computer that runs Windows.

If I were ADOBE...I'd stick it to Steve Jobs and Apple. Mr. Adobe CEO should have just simply say, "Steve Jobs don't like us, don't want us, bans us from his Platforms, why should we invest in something that does not benifit us?". I would have done this.

I'd put 80% of this problem on Apple/Steve Jobs and 20% on Adobe.

And why do you think its ADOBE is not optimized for Macs? If you are a software company what do you need to be able to optimize or better your program for Windows, Linux flavors, or OSX? I would think that you need access to the OS Codes, kernal etc. I doubt Steve Jobs will allow Adobe such access. That is one reasons in the many reasons why Flash does not run good on MACs.

Second reason, Apple Video drivers are just poor and worthless. Ever asked urself why Windows games that play superb can play extremely well on Linux (Steam Games as example), but when thrown onto OSX...its unbearable?

Nuff ranting.

So adobe doesn't have the permissions it needs to perform it's necessary functions? Uh, ok. So they aren't satisfied with the application layer and need total root access to perform well. Ok, I get it.

As for your 80/20 where did you get that, out of your ass? oh, ok.

This is an issue that Adobe doesn't update Flash enough (period). Apple is just making a deal about it because no one else does. MS has made huge strides in making Windows a lot more secure, but Adobe has done a piss poor job of updating Flash and it's full of security issues and a CPU hog... The fact that Adobe asks Apple to send a Macbook Air is rediculous - Another user said this - Dell, HP, Toshiba are also expected to send a laptop so Adobe can optimize for mobile use? No, do it right, keep your software secure and efficient and then tell us all it's multi-platform and an industry standard. Adobe totally dropped the ball on Flash - But because it's the current "open" industry standard, no one was making a huge deal until Apple opened it's mouth.

It does us all good when these guys duke it out because it keeps them honest. The PC guys on this forum love keeping Apple honest, why not Adobe and the rest? It should be fair game for all!

Steve Jobs hates Flash and have blantantly said so barring his products from Flash. Its been on the web if you'd check..oh maybe the last two years? Adobe has alot riding on the MAC CS5 Platform and they do not want to loose money. So it is in Adobe's interest to try to work in Steve Jobs. Ofcourse then you'd think that perhaps if Steve Jobs wasn't such a dictator...Adobe may still be optimizing Flash for Macs. That was so simple to figure out. I suppose I am pulling it out of my ass.
