Adobe video editing GTX 1070 vs 1080

Hi, I'm trying to decide upon which graphics card to buy; GTX 1070 or the more expensive GTX 1080. I've decided that as far as my gaming requirements goes the 1070 will suffice, but I mostly use my computer for video editing and motion graphics work.

So far the only test I've seen of the 1070 and 1080 in regards to video work using Adobe software have been GPU accelerated exporting and rendering tests which seems to put the two cards pretty much neck on neck (the 1080 being slightly faster). So judging by that alone the slight performance increase by the 1080 is not nearly worth the extra cost of that card.

What I'm wondering though is how these two cards compare to each other when it comes to other video editing related tasks like e.g doing heavy colour grading of 4K footage in Premiere Pro or Speedgrade or effects work in After Effects with tons of layers and adjustments?
Will the cards still perform pretty much the same or will there be a more significant performance boost seen by the GTX 1080?

Just to clarify: When I refer to performance during colour grading I refer to how quickly the image updates in realtime while adjusting the colours (right now I'm suffering from a slight lag). And also when applying colour grades to footage in combination with effects etc would a more powerful graphics card like the GTX 1080 handle the GPU accelerated playback significantly better (less dropped frames etc) than the weaker GTX 1070 or will their performance be pretty much the same with these tasks as well?

There would be even less of a difference between them in video editing. I would go for the 1070.

I have the GTX 1070 and the ray trace will not work in AE Cs6. I have added the card to the list of ray trace cards nothing. If you want Motion Graphics I suggest Q4000.

I ended up bying the GTX1070 myself and to my big disappointment this card is not yet supported by Adobe. Like you say, in After Effects it's not supported at all so ray tracing doesn't work (not even in the latest CC2015.3 release) and while the card seems to work just fine in Premiere Pro, but offers no improvements in render times.
I've done render tests with loads of GPU accelerated effects and scaling etc and render times with the GTX1070 are pretty much identical to my fiver year old GTX580. It's all very disappointing.

DaVinci Resolve seems to love the GTX1070 though so Adobe really needs to get a move on and fully support these newer GTX cards. I'm sure more people will move to Resolve unless they do. I really don't want to buy an overpriced Quadro card just to get After Effects working properly when my GTX1070 seems to be working so well in all my non-Adobe applications.

I'm hoping Adobe will fix this and fully support the GTX1070 and the other new GTX cards in the upcoming CC2016 release. Or else I might have to trade in my GTX1070 for a GTX980Ti.
