Advice for HDD upgrade problem

Hello, I own a laptop I'm trying upgrade the hdd in, the current one in it is a 500 GB 5400 RPM 2.5 inch Seagate drive, the new one is a 750 GB 7200 RPM 2.5 inch Seagate drive. I thought everything was good and done after I had burned Clonezilla to a DVD, but then, when I plugged in both harddrives to an old desktop (which can run clonezilla), I realized that I only have 2 SATA power cables. This means I can only have 2 working SATA devices to clone the old HDD to the new one. Anyone have any advice on how to boot clonezilla without a DVD? USB booting is out of the question, I can't get the MOBO to boot off of it.

Connect the new HDD externally (SATA-to-USB hard drive enclosure) then you'll still be able to use the DVD drive.

Clonezilla doesn't recognize external drives at all,
